iPhone 5c is a Better Deal

Apple released a new, lower-cost iPhone called the iPhone 5C. The device will come in green, yellow, blue, white and red colors.

The iPhone 5C is made of soft silicon rubber rather than anodized aluminum. It's essentially an iPhone 5 inside a colored plastic shell with a 4-inch retina display, an A6 chip, an 8 megapixel camera and an improved front facing camera for FaceTime video chats.

It also has a slightly larger battery than the iPhone 5 and supports more LTE bands than any other smartphone in the world.

Jony Ive described the phone in his trademark way, stating it’s “beautifully, unapologetically plastic.”

The new iPhone has been designed in particular for emerging markets like China and those areas of the world where subsidized pricing doesn’t work.

Price and Availability

It will retail for $99 for a 16GB version and $199 for a 32GB version, on a two-year contract. Since this is a slightly lower-end device, there is no 64GB version.

Apple will start taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5c on September 13th, and the device will go on sale on Sept. 20 in the United States, China, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

By December, the iPhone 5C will be available in over 100 countries and on 270 carriers.

Apple has also created custom cases with a soft-feel silicon rubber for the device. The cases, priced at $29 each, also provide an additional color option on top of the regular colors of the iPhone 5c.
