Mumford & Sons did something unthinkable for their new music video. The band combined their folky sound with four of the best comedians of Hollywood to create a hugely entertaining music video.
The video for "Hopeless Wanderer," which was released on Sunday and quickly went viral stars, Arrested Development’s Jason Bateman playing Winston Marshall, The Hangover star Ed Helms playing Ben Lovett, and former Saturday Night Live comedians Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte playing Marcus Mumford and Ted Dwane.
In the video, Bateman, Sudeikis, Helms and Forte are seen in a dusty barn where they star as members of the band. Adorning hipster look, rusty clothing, and old instruments, the troupe of actors are almost unrecognizable at first. But after the closeup shots and funny moment after 1 minute into the video, it's obvious the video is not the Mumford & Sons we all know.
The four parody the band’s intense strumming and piano playing with sweat streaming down their faces.
With a jam session on a rowboat or a banjo dance break, the actors bring a level of exciting entertainment never before seen in a Mumford & Sons video.
Mumford & Sons joked: “We are delighted to present to you our new video for the song Hopeless Wanderer. A massive pair of thumbs-up to Sam Jones for directing and his cast of young budding actors. We’re sure they all have bright futures ahead of them.”
Ed Helms summed-up the experience: “We had an absolute blast shooting this video and the final product only confirms what I felt going in - thank god we're a fake band.
“We're so grateful to be a successful fake band. It's been years of fake dedication and fake hard work to get here, and I really believe we are at the forefront of abject fraudulence."
